The von Knorring Family

Uder

The town of Uder near Heiligenstadt is the earliest home of the Knorr family. The first settlement, called Villa Othera, was founded here at the end of the 11th century, and was situated near the so-called “Knorr Well” behind the church. The town was placed on one of the medieval Pilgrimage roads and belonged, as did Rusteberg and Heiligenstadt, to the bishop of Mainz, who built the first church here around 1100 AD. Uder was in East Germany, near the border and hard to reach, but today it is again easy to visit.
