The von Knorring Family

 

The families today

 

The Baltic noble and baronial families

descend from Heinrich von Knorring (1595-1676), a grandson of Johann Knorring of Peddast, and are divided into several branches and "houses", named after their respective estates. Like many other noble families in Estonia, they became barons in the early 20th century.

 

The oldest branch Erwita is living in Finland and USA, the head of the family branch being baron Niklas von Knorring in Helsinki. The Udenküll branch moved to Germany after the Russian revolution, but died out in 1939. The Weissenfeld branch is living in Germany, USA and Chile, the head of this family is baron Ekkehard von Knorring in Augsburg.

 

The largest branch of the family today is the Swedish unregistered branch of the Baltic noble family, descendants of Lieutenant Colonel Otto Wilhelm von Knorring (1681-1761), a grandson of Heinrich, who moved from Estonia in the 1720:s to join the Dalecarlia Regiment in Falun and settled in nearby Äppelbo. The head of this family today is Lars Göran von Knorring, Stockholm, and the branch is represented by the Swedish von Knorring family society.

 

The Swedish/Finnish noble family von Knorring

is registered in the Swedish and Finnish Houses of Nobility, and descend from Colonel Henrik Johan von  Knorring (1683-1752), a grandsons grandson of Johann Knorring of Peddast, and his two sons Frans Henrik and Carl Reinhold, who were introduced in 1756. The head of this family in Finland today is Henrik Johan von Knorring, also chairman of the Finnish von Knorring family society. A small branch of the family is living in Sweden, headed by Robert von Knorring.

 

The Swedish-Finnish noble family Knorring (†)

descended from Georg Knorring (died 1647), a nephew of Johann Knorring of Peddast, a Colonel in the Swedish army, and his grandsons Staffan Friedrich and Jöran Johann, who were introduced in 1672. The family died out with the brothers Nikolai and Konstantin Knorring, who lived in St Petersburg in the beginning if the 20th century.

 

The Swedish/Finnish baronial family von Knorring (†)

descended from the above mentioned Jöran Johann Knorring (1657-1726), a Colonel and Vice Governor in Livland, who became a baron in 1720. The last baron Göran von Knorring died in 1965, leaving no children.
